FENOM presents the Nike Air Max 1 "La Ville Lumière" with Kimberly Anthony & G.Y.D. Studio

My name is Kimberly and I'm of Togolese and Ghanaian descent. I launched G.Y.D. Studio in 2019. It stands for "Get Your Dose": get your dose of trends, energy, inspiration, culture... These are terms that define our current generation, as well as my own background. All these factors allow you to become who you are and define yourself as a person.

Our products are designed in France and Togo, then made by hand in Africa. I felt confident in choosing to have them produced on site. That lets me produce in a way that speaks to me, while doing something for the people who live there. I could not work in fashion without this notion of giving back.

I'm inspired by my daily life. That is why the Air Max resonates with me: it's timeless, like a phoenix. It is constantly being reborn, but in a different way. You can always make it your own to suit your style. Fashion is about products that stand the test of time, but that have their own story to tell.

Paris is a huge influence for me. That is where I lived, blossomed and found my style. Being in Paris allowed me to discover styles from around the world. That is what makes the city great, all those lights symbolize its wealth. The wide variety of communities in Paris means anything you want is within reach. Paris and its residents are naturally present in my designs because the city is part of me.

With G.Y.D Studio I want to show that "made in Africa" streetwear is possible. We are going to try to develop the brand in that sense. If I can preserve the hand-made aspect to support the local craftspeople, it would be even better. My goal is to be able to help others through my work while making a living off my art.


My identity as an African woman is naturally reflected in my clothing because it is part of me. I don't need to think about it to highlight it. It was second-nature to employ artisans I admire in Togo. I would like to show that you can have streetwear in Africa too. That is how I define my vision.

I'm a woman surrounded by men on a daily basis. Some people might have preconceived notions about that. I am equally comfortable with men and women. Everyone has masculine and feminine traits, regardless of their gender. Being respected in a man's world was never an obstacle for me. There is no difference between us, so I don't see why I would do things any differently.
